Children’s TV Shows

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

The longest running British children’s TV show is Blue Peter. Since 1958, generations have grown up with the familiar format of information, education and entertainment. Topics have included sports, hobbies, adventure and how to make things. The program is also famous for its appeals over the years. These are to raise money for a cause and the ongoing appeal for lifeboats for sea rescues resulted in 25 new ones for the service. Along with the presenters, there has been a series of pets in the studio. Children can write in for a Blue Peter Badge achievement award. A time capsule was buried in the Blue Peter Garden in 2000, to be opened in 2009.

Problem Of School Violence

Monday, December 29th, 2008

There is so much shrillness around the problem of violence in schools in our society, that many people forget that school violence is not a new problem. Bullying goes back decades. If anything, it was worse in the past. It is true that certain awful disasters such as school shootings are much more commonplace than they were before, but school bullying is no worse than it was in my day. In some ways, as a matter of fact, it is less severe. School bullies often face consequences that they didn’t back when it was considered okay for the football team to do whatever they wanted. The main difference is the perception of school violence. Nowadays, people feel they can’t afford to ignore it anymore.

Allergy Testing Children

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

With the rise in childhood allergies and the declining air quality in many different parts of the country, allergy testing children is really a good idea. An allergy blood test is safe, fairly effective, and reasonably inexpensive. There are many different sorts of allergy tests, of course, and there are many different allergens, So it often helps to know a little bit about what you are looking for. Nonetheless, a basic test for the more common allergens can be done right in your doctor’s office. One of the simplest methods for allergy testing children is the so-called scratch test. This is the one they give children who have chronic stuffy noses, itchy eyes, and other symptoms of airborne allergens.
